Karlene and I went up to LDS Booksellers Convention (LDSBA) yesterday. The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. There were no big decorations or crowds of people or even signs to indicate which hall they were in.
Then we went inside. And it was still quiet. There wasn't that rush and buzz of bodies and voices that I remember from the past. And a lot of the bigger booths were smaller this year. I am not sure if it is the economy or a statement on the state of books in general or what, but it made me a bit sad.
Here are a few of the pictures I took today.
This first picture is something I have never seen at the convention before. The floor was considerably smaller than before. Not as many booths as in years past.

All in all, though, it was good day spent seeing new products, seeing old friends and making new ones.

Oh, please don't get him a sword! As a mother of a toddler, I beg you...
Don't forget I had 7 toddlers.
I was adamant that my boys not have toy guns, swords, weapons of any kind and they turned everything into guns and swords- legos, sticks, crayons, toast...
I didn't get one, though. Perhaps if he were older and would understand the symbolism a bit more I would have, but until then he will have to make do with other things, just like his daddy.
Why wasn't Dave's new book there? He's been pretty quiet as of late....maybe still working on it? Extended deadline? Hmm. Looked like you had fun though. I went to the quilt show I told you about today. I guess it's a talent I wish I had, but don't. So it intrigues me. They are beautiful. It runs through Sept. if you get bored and want to see some good art! :)
Cami- I'll let Dave tell us about his book. And yes it was fun. I love booksellers. But I loved it more when I was able to be there all three days as a vendor. And maybe I will come down for the quilt show. I love making quilts. Brandi and I were discussing a pattern to make in black and white to represent a soccer ball. Now if I could just find the time.
Time. Something that seems to evade us all. :)
This has nothing to do with anything....I'm just really in the Christmas mood and was noticing that you have several Christmas posts from the past....so I was listening to the one...or watching it, I guess...that shows your house lighting synchronized with music! I was quite enjoying it, my children will love you for further encouraging my early Christmas Spirit! Anyway, funny thing is that there is a dog barking the entire time in the background. It is 6:00 a.m. right now...suddenly my little dog walks in my bedroom with her ears cocked up and her eyes scanning the room. I'm pretty sure she was looking for the barking intruder! Lol! It was a great way to start the day! House was lovely by the way, did you do it again last year? That post said 2007. Once again....I CAN'T WAIT! Love Christmas! :)
That sounds like heaven in a room, albeit a slightly smaller heaven than normal. . .though a good portion of the LDS fiction I've been reading doesn't rate more than a 3 1/2 to 4 out of five for me. Fun romps.

I thought the conference was nice even with a smaller group this year. I had more time to spend at each booth and found some new products. I picked up My Sister's Budget after stopping by their booth and also some unique picture frames. Thought it was a nice convention again.
