Halloween 2011

This is what I wore to work
Kinda wish I had worn it for the ward party, too

Brandi went as a Nerd

All the gang at work

Ok.
I wanted to be a piece of candy.
I choose candy corn because in my mind I had a really awesome idea
and it looked really, really pretty and clever, and cute.
And easy to do.
Some orange tights for the orange bottom of the candy
A fluffy tutu for cuteness
A yellow shirt for the yellow middle (and I already had one)
A white hat for the white top part

I looked in the mirror after I got dressed and knew it wasn't what I was going for.
But I had no time to change because we were already late because I had run some errands after school
So when people guessed I was a duck-
"What a cute duck, why do I never think of these cute ideas?'
"Oh I love your feathers!"
"Not sure what you are, but it is totally you"
Only one person walked around the corner, saw me and said
"Candy corn! I love it!"
(but I suspect he overheard me explaining it to someone else, even though he insists he
knew the minute he saw me)

But I did see a costume that helped me figure out how to do a peacock
and I have wanted to do a peacock of years and years.
So maybe next year there will be no epic fail of a costume

(and besides, this picture makes me look totally fat
and you can't tell I have lost 30+ pounds since May)

Brandi as a Nerd

Brandi by herself

Jessica decided at the last moment how she wanted to dress.
She choose to go as Kerli-- a singer from Astonia or somewhere like that

I think she did an amazing job
And here is proof that Jess can wear anything and look good
Even a garbage sack!!

Halloween costume

I am doing two costumes this year.  I kept asking if the secretaries were doing a theme costume this year as they have in the past. Everyone kept saying "I don't know."  So I decided what I wanted to do and made it.  Friday I got an e-mail saying we had voted and the decision was to do a Pirate theme so please dress as a pirate on halloween.  Thing is- I never voted or even knew there was a vote.  So, what to do- I have a pirate costume in my stash in my closet so that is no problem, but really?  I already made my costume and I wasn't asked to participate in the vote but now I am being asked to participate in the wearing?  So-- do I be obstinate and say, "I asked and you said nothing and I already had a costume." Or do I suck it up and wear the pirate costume (I love mine).

Or third choice- wear the pirate costume to school, then change to the other one for the ward Trunk or Treat?  That is the option I chose. No waves at work and I get to wear both.

So, the second costume? consists of :

Orange tights, Yellow t-shirt and a white cap

Can you guess?

I really hope it turns out the way I picture it in my mind.

Pictures to come.

Tuesday Thoughts- Costumes

I have been tryingo decice what to dress up as for Halloween. I am not sure we are dressing up at school this year or not. And as for going trick or teating with Brandi, I will be in Logan most of the day with the marching band. Brandi doesn't want to go and so she is going to stay home with Jessica. Later Jessica will take Brandi and her best friend trick or treating. I will probably be home by then, but don't know how much time i will have to dress up or if I am going to feel like it.

Right now I am trying to decide between this  or one of these. The first would be easy to make modest, the second, I would either have to be super picky about the costume to begin with or do a lot of altering or adding to.  Or I could just go as Osiris or Isis, or Hathor, or cleo- I already have the costume.  Or a pirate, or a kitty, or a witch- I have those costumes too. Or maybe I'll make me a pair of harem pants and go as a genie.

What do you think?

Confessions and a poll

Ok, confession time. I absolutely hate Halloween and all it stands for. The only good thing about it is I can wear my tiara in public and no one feels they need to call the men in white coats..

I do, however, love coming up with a costume and dressing up and pretending with the kids. At the high school, the office staff decides on a theme and we all dress to that theme. I hate this year's theme. We are dressing as witches. I have absolutely nothing in my vast wardrobe of costumes that will work for a witch. So a costume for me now requires shopping. I hate shopping.
So you get to help me decide. What kind of witch am I going to be? I already ruled out an evil, warts on the nose witch, so don't even suggest it. Do I go elegant witch- long purple velvet dress, black nylons with glittery stars on them or do I go silly, bumbling witch with orange or green stripped tights? Here are a few pictures of costumes that I kind of like. What would be your choice?

1.
1.

With striped tights or no?

2.

ok as it is?

3.

I would have to make this one or alter it to make it modest enough to wear

4.

I like this one, but can't find it in adult size, so again, I would have to make it

5.

One of my favorite ones

6.

Glitter tights, and I have a pair of granny boots I could wear

7.

8.

9.

10.

I really like this one if I am going to go this way with the costume
11.

I also like this one, but again would have to alter it or make it
So, suggestions?

Halloween guessing game

What are you going to be on Halloween night,
A witch or a goblin or a ghoul?
What are you going to be, well don't tell me,
Wait 'til Halloween and let me guess.**

My friend and her daughter are playing a halloween guessing game. I thought I would play along.

So guess what I am going dressed as.

It is a woman
she lived in an ancient place
people bowed down before her
She had what is considered one of the great loves of all time
snakes
pyramids

Can you guess?
