Biggest Loser Challenge

My school is having a Biggest Loser Challenge. Those of us interested signed up and we were divided into teams to help each other and cheer each other on. We are awarded points for pounds lost, but this is about getting healthy as much as it is about losing weight. Because of that, we are also awarded points for getting 8 hrs of sleep, not having caffiene or sugar, for eating fruits and veggies, for drinking enough water, for taking vitamins, and getting enough sleep and exercising. Total 10 points/day.

I signed up because I would like to lose the weight that I have gained in the last 2 years. I also want to lose it because my medical conditions are not so painful the less weight I have. But I do have a bit of a struggle, these same conditions make it difficult to exercises so I need the motivation of being accountable to someone besides myself. Also, the medicine I take causes weight gain- another reason to just give up exercising- you know, kind of like- "I can't help it, its the meds".

I am still not comfortable saying the number outloud. I will tell you that I would like to lose 30 lbs. My goal, though, for this challenge is 15 lbs because I think that 30 by the time the challenge is over is a bit unrealistic.

So here is my "before" picture. I will post updates and updated pictures as we go along.
Oh, did I mention that there are going to be prizes?

GO SANDRA!!! You can do it!

You probably don't need/want either of these suggestions, but I'll share them anyway, just in case.

1) I assume they probably gave you a tracking device of sorts to keep track of your progress. If not, there is one that I am using that seems to help me a lot. It is the Flylady body clutter investigator. Here is the link http://www.flylady.net/images/bc_investigator.pdf I find that using it really helps me see visually if I'm getting the water, vitamins, exercise, and food groups I need.

2) The book The Formula: A Personalized 40-30-30 Fat-Burning Nutrition Program by Gene and Joyce Daoust works amazingly well for me.(and everyone I know who has tried it) It explains the science behind burning fat (that your body NEEDS carbs, fat, and protein to function well and burn fat) and it gives lots and lots of menu plans/recipes so that you don't have to try to figure out what to eat. (If you decide to try some, let me know and I'll tell you my personal favorites) I checked out the book at the library, then tried the plan and recipes. It worked so well for me, I bought the book for myself (and 3 family members and friends)

GOOD LUCK!! We are behind you all the way!

I love Flylady.

I will have to check out that book.
I think people's biggest problem is that they think that in order to lose weight they need to cut, cut, cut food. Actually, if you cut too much, your body holds onto the weight so it doesn't starve. I am always amazed by the amount of food I can eat and still lose.

My biggest problem is that I have insomnia. Not getting enough sleep also causes your body to hold on to weight. That and stress. If I could conquer those two problems I would have it made. Until then...

Jeri, e-mail me your favorites from that book.

We can do this together! I found out after I joined Curves and took answered a questionaire that I am carbohydrate insensitive, so I need a higher protein diet! It doesn't cut out carbs completely, but you eat more protein, then carbs then fat, I'll have to look up the %. I also cut sugar, not totally, but quite a bit, which I didn't eat a lot anyway. Bingo! No more insomnia (which is one of the carbo insensitive things) & started losing weight the first week. Just a thought. Good luck (together). Loretta

OH, sorry, I fogot one thing, I started keeping a food diary, writing everything that went in my mouth & was shocked at how many calories I WASN'T eating! I have a hard time getting them all in now that I'm aware because I do stop at that I'm starting to feel full point, but I'm eating more calories than I was before. I do drink enough water, exercise, take my vitamins & meds that my doctor told me to take. I just can't get all the calories in. I seem to get full fast on the food that's good for me, & we don't have junk food in the house. What was I eating before I wonder?

Sandra, I have that book. You can borrow it for a few weeks if you want, to see if you want to buy your own. I really liked some of the recipes.
